Camping at a Casino on the Mighty Mississippi River

When researching places to camp near St. Louis, the pickings are pretty slim.  Camping near most big cities is always a challenge.

In 2009, we camped at a KOA in East St. Louis, Illinois that was okay, but I thought we could do better this time.  My research on my favorite RV forum, www.rv.net, led me to the Casino Queen, a hotel, campground and casino on the Mississippi River also in East St. Louis, right across from downtown St. Louis.

The campground was very easy to get to from the interstate, and it's inexpensive, clean and quiet.  This campground cost half as much as the KOA and is closer to the city.  They have a playground for the kids.  We have a gorgeous view of downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch.  The view tonight is nice, but I was hoping the Arch would be lit up more brightly.  In this photo, you can barely see it.

It's not exactly a park-like setting at this campground, but it's incredibly convenient for a family that is in town for a short time and wants to be close to the downtown attractions.

For a two night stay, it's more than just fine.
