The drive is called the Tunnel of Trees because the road is lined with hardwood trees and evergreen trees. We passed horse farms, cabins, massive homes, and cottages along the way. Some of the homes were gorgeous with amazing views of Lake Michigan.
We stopped at the deli and country store in Good Hart, which was recommended by a friend and TripAdvisor. We stopped in and bought some delicious homemade donuts that were shaped like baseballs and rolled in cinnamon sugar. They were simply delicious. Scrumptious, even.
We continued up to Cross Village and stopped for lunch at Legs Inn. Polish immigrants built the inn and it's filled with carved wood - from the doors to wall decorations to sculptures. It's pretty difficult to describe; it's incredibly unique. We got seats on the patio, and our server came over. She is from Poland, along with other employees who come over to work at the inn, adding to the Polish feel of the place.
We ordered potato pancakes for an appetizer, and the kids and I ordered pierogies. Jeff ordered a BLT. The potato pancakes were crispy and delicious! Henry put both sour cream and applesauce on them.
The pierogies were also good, and homemade. The only thing we didn't love about them is that the filling, which was a mix of farmers cheese and potato (we're used to either potato OR farmer's cheese) had a lot of pepper in it.
After lunch, we headed back through the Tunnel of Trees, which Jeff called the Tunnel of Death. He was not a fan of the road because it was narrow, and the mix of cyclists, motorcycles and cars was a bit tight at times. We survived the ride home unscathed.
