Perfect Night for Camping

After our boat tour  at 5:00 p.m. today, we came back to the campground for the night.  The sun sets later up here, around 9:00 p.m.

Ruth and I walked on the beach for a bit while Henry and Jeff hung out at the motorhome, and then we made a big campfire in our fire pit.  The sunset was beautiful tonight.  It was a cloudless sky, so the sun was bright until it dropped behind a hill in the distance.   After the sun set, the sky at the horizon turned a beautiful shade of red.

We used our George Foreman grill to make hamburgers and cooked hot dogs on roasting sticks over the fire.  Then there was the obligatory marshmallow roasting for Ruth and I.  We skipped the s'mores and just went for the marshmallows.

As the sky got darker, we could see the Big Dipper and a few other constellations noted in Henry's Junior Ranger booklet.  Because we're not near any big cities, the night sky is pretty dark and good for star gazing.  It was fun, and admittedly, a bit scary at times.  According to the Junior Ranger booklet, you can see the Milky Way from this area. We kept looking at the night sky, looking for constellations and pointing out bright stars.
